Frequently Asked Questions
Is an appointment for a Physical Examination of my pet required prior to traveling?
Yes. In order for the Health Certificate to be completed, a physical examination is mandatory to verify your pet is healthy and free of contagious diseases. Additionally, any necessary testing, vaccinations, or treatments will be performed or verified as indicated.
Failure to meet import requirements of the destination location prior to travel means our Accredited Veterinarian cannot issue a Health Certificate.
What are the requirements to take my pet to another State?
State requirements may vary, but in general, a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and proof of a current Rabies vaccination for all pets 12 weeks of age and older is required. Please note, Hawaii is an exception to this.
How long does it take to obtain an Interstate Health Certificate?
In general, most Interstate Health Certificates can be completed the same day that the physical examination is performed by our Accredited Veterinarian. Please note, Hawaii is an exception to this.
What are the requirements to take my pet to another Country?
Every country has its own individual requirements for pet entry. Examples include microchip implantation, specific vaccinations, diagnostic tests, and medical treatments. In some instances, timing is very critical for these requirements to be met and may delay when you are able to travel with your pet.
How long does it take to obtain an International Health Certificate?
Since every country is unique in its requirements, the process may take a few weeks or even several months before your pet is eligible to travel with you.
What does “Endorsement” mean for International Health Certificates?
After our Accredited Veterinarian completes, signs, and dates the International Health Certificate, many countries require Endorsement. This means a USDA APHIS Veterinarian must counter-sign and emboss/stamp the Health Certificate. In most instances, the USDA APHIS Veterinarian does NOT need to perform an additional examination of your pet.
How do I get an International Health Certificate Endorsed?
Some countries permit electronic endorsement utilizing the online Veterinary Export Health Certification System (VEHCS), while others require paper ink-signed and embossed Health Certificates. Please Request a Consultation and we can provide more specific information.
How much does a Health Certificate cost?
Cost varies depending upon the destination’s individual requirements. Please Request a Consultation and we can provide more specific information on pricing.
What types of animals do you provide Health Certificates for?
We strictly provide Health Certificate for dogs and cats, only.
What if my Airline or Shipping Line has additional requirements?
Airlines and shipping lines may have their own policies or paperwork requirements. Please provide all necessary documents at your appointment to be evaluated.
My pet gets nervous when traveling. Can you provide medication to help reduce stress?
After a physical examination has been completed by our Accredited Veterinarian, prescription medication can be provided to help reduce travel anxiety, if appropriate.
